Jermain Defoe believes racism is still prevalent in football - and he reckons governing bodies must do more to punish bigoted incidents.
The Ibrox poacher recounted a match against Spain at Real Madrid's famous Santiago Bernabeu stadium. Several black players in the England side including Defoe were abused by home fans in an incident so severe the national team refused to play there four years later.
Defoe, who was making only his eighth appearance for the Three Lions aged 22, now has bad memories of what should have been a special night in one of football's most iconic grounds.
