Spain will begin to 'de-escalate' its nationwide lockdown measures from mid-May, the prime minister has said. The country has the highest number of confirmed coronavirus infections in Europe and introduced some of the strictest measures on the continent on March 14.
Now, Spanish prime minister Pedro Sánchez has said he expects to be able to start lifting measures after another two and a half weeks of lockdown, the BBC reports.
He has asked parliament for a third extension on the measures to last until May 9. Mr Sánchez said de-esculation would be slow and authorities needed to stay 'on top of the virus'.
