Japan is calling for strict restrictions just ahead of the 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga declared a new state of emergency on Friday (April 23), which extends from Sunday (April 25) to May 11 in Tokyo, Osaka and two other prefectures in an effort to control the spread of coronavirus, Bloomberg reported. “If we don’t act, there is a concern that the virus surge we are seeing in big cities could spread nationwide,” he told reporters.
