Ireland’s Mona McSharry has made the country proud after qualifying for the 100m breaststroke final after a brilliant performance in the semi-final.
The Sligo native finished fourth with a time of 1:06:59 and qualified eighth overall becoming only the second Irish swimmer ever to make an Olympic final.
The 20-year-old was a mere three-tenths of a second off her best time and beat out Australia’s Chelsea Hodges by 0.01s. When chatting to RTÉ Sport after qualifying, Mona said: ‘It’s amazing.
