Inquest opens into death of five-year-old as his mother is charged with murder

An inquest into the death of a five-year-old whose body was found in Oldham has been opened. Dylan Scanlon was found not breathing at his home on Elm Road on December 31.

He was discovered by a family member who called paramedics to the address. An inquest into his death was formally opened at Rochdale Coroner’s Court today on Friday (April 8).

It heard how Dylan’s mother, Claire Scanlon, has since been charged with his murder and remains remanded in custody. Assistant coroner Nicholas Flanagan adjourned the inquest while criminal proceedings are ongoing. In a statement, he said: "Dylan was my best mate. "He was a happy, funny and cheeky little boy, who was full of excitement - especially about doing new things.
