First-time homebuyers across the UK are cutting down on pints and holidays so they can get on the property ladder. New research by firstmortgage.co.uk reveals the ideal home for first-time buyers is a two-bedroom property (40 per cent), after having saved a hefty deposit of £26,000.

Top saving methods include cutting out close to 3000 litres of pub-bought beers and not going on holidays. A third of first homebuyers revealed they did not have a fixed amount they saved each month to put towards buying their property.

But when asked what they were doing to achieve their savings goals, a third reduced their eating out habits, 32 per cent saved by not going on holiday and 18 per cent even moved back in with their parents.
