Hamilton Accies boss targets 'strong characters' in January window

Hamilton Accies boss John Rankin isn’t finished in the January transfer window, as he bids to make his side more ruthless at both ends of the pitch.Rankin moved last week to bring midfielder Ben Williamson, 22, to the club from Rangers on an 18-month contract, and 19-year-old striker Makenzie Kirk on a loan deal from Hearts for the rest of this season, who is the son of former Hearts and current St Johnstone assistant boss Andy.Rankin sees more players coming in, but adds that a few others will head out on loan.He said: “I don’t think we’re done yet, I think there will still be some more coming in.“As a team I think we need to be more ruthless at both ends of the pitch.“It’s getting characters at this stage of the season, who can do that and put demands on people on the pitch.“I think that’s the important part, getting players with personalities and who can give us what we don’t have just now.“If we can do that do that over the next week or weeks would be perfect.“With that, there’s always outgoings, and that may happen in the next couple of days.“Boys are looking for guaranteed game-time, which I can’t give them at this time of the season, so we have to now look to shuffle the pack, so to speak, and see where some of them can get to.“There are a lot of players that haven’t had the minutes that they will have wanted, and that means some will go on loan elsewhere, which is fine.“As a club we need to make sure of what’s best for us, but obviously the player has a say in where he goes as well.“There’s not just one or two, there are a few who are needing games.“We need to look at that and where we are, squad-wise, because we’ve had a few injuries recently.”On Williamson and Kirk, Rankin said: “I’m delighted with both.“Ben I
