The latest episode of Grand Designs featured a 'relatable' couple whose touching story unleashed tears on Wednesday night. The home of Rob, 58 and Kate, 47, in Kent was dubbed as the fastest build ever seen on the Channel 4 programme.

Fans were moved by the flatpack house that replaced the home originally built by Rob's grandfather in 1948. In an emotional moment, Rob, a former farmer, said he was dedicated to building the house to make his wife smile.

The couple shared how they weren't able to have children, but said the build would help make their family complete. He explained: "I've always wanted to build Kate a house - to see a smile on her face and how excited she gets, she's wonderful.""His connection to things can be infectious," said Kate. "If it's important to him, it's important to me.

I've not been able to have children, so being able to create this which is so much of us together, is different, but it's home."The speedy five-month project was due to the creative couple commissioning a factory-built home to replace the old family home that was ridden with asbestos and lacked insulation.Rob and Kate's £350,000 budget paid for six modules pre-fitted with kitchen cupboards and light switches.
