Police have raised concerns that a Gay Village bar’s plans to stay open later over the weekend could attract ‘unruly’ punters.

The New Union Hotel on Princess Street is hoping to sell alcohol and play music until 6am on Fridays and Saturdays - instead of the current 4am finish.

Changing the operating hours to later than the nearby G-A-Y would stop large groups of people spilling out into the street at the same time, according to the landlord.

But Greater Manchester Police and Manchester council officers have objected to the application, which is being considered by licensing chiefs next week.
