Former Top of the Pops dancer opens new school in Erskine

A dance teacher who has performed on Top of the Pops and with Boyzone has set up a new school in Erskine.Caroline Docherty has been dancing since she was two years old and already has an established dance school in Govan.But since she moved to Erskine last year, she decided to expand Dance Doc and open a second school at Park Mains High School.She said: “I’ve got an established dance school in Govan which I set up in 2013.

We moved to Erskine and I decided to start another one here.“I thought there might be a market for it, there are a lot of children in the area and a lot of new houses being built as well as nearby Bishopton and Dargavel.“So far it’s been a mixture of children from all over Erskine, Bishopton and Johnstone.

We’ve had lots of interest. We do freestyle, which is quite an acrobatic style of dance and is very popular.“We’ve had children from the Govan class take part in World Championships and other competitions so we can train for that if that’s what they want to do.“We also do dance exams.
