Family's wait for justice over as speeding driver who killed Edinburgh man Jonny Smith faces jail

A speeding driver who killed another motorist when he crossed on to the opposite carriageway is facing a jail sentence. Ednilson De Ceita’s BMW X5 collided with a Peugeot being driven by Jonny Smith, 29, on the A902 Maybury Road, in Edinburgh, on May 25, 2018.

Jonny suffered a serious head injury in the crash and his car caught fire. De Ceita, also 29, had denied causing death by dangerous driving.

He was accused of driving at excessive speed and on to the opposite carriageway into the path of oncoming vehicles and colliding with the Jonny’s vehicle and another car.But a jury at the High Court in Edinburgh found property firm manager De Ceita guilty.He also did not have a valid licence or insurance at the time of the fatal collision.Foll
