An eye-catching town centre display has been installed again. And as well as breathing some springtime freshness into Dumfries’ Queensberry Street, Mark Smith of Kings Coffee and Books has also paid tribute to UkraineHis Umbrella Sky arrangement includes the yellow and blue colours of the country devastated by the invasion of Russian troops.
Mark’s idea for the arrangement was inspired by the Umbrella Project which originated in Portugal several years ago, but has spread to other European countries. He first unveiled the display as a tribute to the 2019 summer.
Mark said: “We wanted to brighten up our wee street again and breathe some springtime freshness into it.“The placement of the yellow and blue umbrellas was deliberate because we support the people of Ukraine.
We have a Ukrainain staff member so it was important for us to show solidarity.“We’re also celebrating the fact the street has been transformed since the umbrellas last appeared in 2019. “The (retail) units are all filled and the businesses all work really well together.
