Teenager, 17, pleads not guilty to murder of young man in town centre

A teenage boy has pleaded not guilty to the murder of a young man in Bury town centre. The boy, 17, who can't be named due to legal reasons, appeared over videolink at Manchester Crown Court.

He is accused of the murder of Abdikarim Abdalla Ahmed; as well as an alternative offence of manslaughter; and a further offence of possession of a bladed article, namely a knife.

During today’s hearing (May 3), the boy entered not guilty pleas to all three offences. A trial has been set for August 1 this year, and is estimated to last around five to seven days. Police received a report of a stabbing at about 3.50pm. Mr Ahmed, known to loved ones as Abdi, was rushed to hospital but was later pronounced dead.
