An onlooker told the paper "she kept herself to herself" at the event. When Matthew was struggling with addiction problems, Jennifer was there to support him, and even paid a sweet tribute to her last year before the release of his memoir Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing.Speaking with Diane Sawyer, Matthew revealed how Jennifer had stood by him, saying: "Jennifer, she says, 'We know you're drinking'," Diane said to the actor.
Responding to Diane, Matthew replied: "Yeah, imagine how scary a moment that was."He then went on to reveal: "She was the one that reached out the most.
