Sam Dingle and Lydia were the protagonists of the first episode, where they revealed the in-soap explanation for why Zak Dingle was missing.
Actor Steve Halliwell is 66, so is one of the older cast members considered high-risk and won't return to filming for the time being.
Lydia confirmed he was back in Scotland with his granddaughter Debbie Dingle, where he would be spending lockdown. The character returned earlier this year following a six month break to attend Sam and Lydia's wedding.
