DWP encourages more people to check Pension Credit eligibility as TV Licence fee increases to £159

TV Licence fee has now increased to £159 for a standard colour TV Licence and £53.50 for a black and white one. The BBC scrapped its free TV licence for over-75s on September 1, 2020 meaning an additional 3 million pensioners now have to pay the annual fee - but there is still a way for older people to watch for free.

The latest figures show that 1.5 million people across the UK are currently receiving Pension Credit, a benefit delivered by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) which is specifically designed to help people over State Pension age cope with additional living costs - including the TV Licence fee.
