dailyrecord.co.ukGutted Sons boss Stevie Farrell said he felt for his side as a deflected late goal saw them fall eight points behind title rivals Stenhousemuir.A fiercely contested clash saw Sons have the better of the chances in the first-half, with a diving Ryan Wallace header clawed away by Stenny keeper Darren Jamieson in the best opening of note.The visitors roared back in the second-half, with Sons keeper Brett Long doing well to deny both Euan O’Reilly and Matty Aitken from close range.There was nothing Long could do to prevent a late winner however, as Michael Anderson’s shot hit teammate James Berry on the backside and spun beyond the wrongfooted keeper.The boss said: “It’s a very hard one to take.
I feel sorry for my players. They put so much into the game and I don’t think they deserved that.“There wasn’t much between the teams, they countered on us a few times and Brett made a couple of good saves.
But I always thought it might take something like a deflection to win it.“Let’s put it where it’s at. It’s a great bit of luck for them.
I’m right behind it and it’s either going into Brett Long’s hands or wide of the post. It’s certainly not going into the back of the net until it hits the boy.“Half the time Stenhousmuir maybe get that luck and win the game, and half the time it falls our way.“I told the players not to get too despondent.”Stenhousemuir’s late winner sparked scenes of jubilation from the visitors in front of the Sons support, something Farrell believes will fire up his side.He continued: “Stenhousemuir were very vocal in their celebrations.
