Driver parks on the motorway to try and avoid Manchester Airport charges

Police caught a driver parking on the hard shoulder of the motorway, in a failed bid to avoid pick-up charges at Manchester Airport.

North West Motorway Police issued the motorist with a Traffic Offence Report (TOR) following the incident. In a post on Twitter in the early hours of yesterday morning (April 23) a force spokesman said that the driver of a Citroen C4 Cactus had pulled up at the side of the motorway, close to the airport, and was 'waiting to collect people'.

Drivers are only allowed to stop on the hard shoulder in an emergency or if told to do so by the police. Any other reason could see you incur a £100 fine and three penalty points.
