A 'dangerous' rapist who avoided justice for more than 20 years is finally behind bars. Maboob Bostan attacked a teenager and two women in the 1990s before before using a false passport to flee the country while on the bail.

But police never gave up on finding him and he was arrested in January at Manchester Airport after landing back in the UK. The 54-year-old, formerly of Batley, West Yorkshire, was jailed for known offences as well as a further count of rape which came to light after a forensics breakthrough. He raped a girl in her teens in Batley in January 1997 and a woman in her 20s, also in Batley, in February 1998. In 2006, a review was undertaken by Operation Recall, West Yorkshire Police's specialist investigation team looking into forensic evidence developments in relation to sexual offences.

A breakthrough in DNA evidence linked Bostan to a further rape involving a woman in her 30s in Manningham Park, Bradford, which took place in September 1997.
