A TV adaptation of Malory Towers, the beloved book by the late best-selling English actor Enid Blyton, is coming to the BBC sooner than originally intended.
The BBC adaptation will be brought forward a fortnight and has been described by producer Grainne McNamara as ‘Downton Abbey for children.’ Originally set in the 1940s, which was also when the original book series was published, this new series is set in modern-day times and features a cast of young girls from different ethnicities and backgrounds.
Showrunners Sasha Hails and Rachel Flowerday spoke to The Guardian about the new series: ‘It feels like absolutely the right time to tell it… as part of the exploration of our times,’ said Hails.’ ‘This is a show for families, kids can watch
