Dentist tells of her fun part as a TV reporter in Scottish Hogmanay show

A Paisley dentist who popped up in a Bollywood blockbuster last year has made her debut on the small screen in Scotland.This time Seema Luthra featured in BBC Scotland’s Hogmanay output in the new sketch show ‘Queen of the New Year’.And the 34-year-old said: “It was my first appearance on the BBC and in comedy and I absolutely loved it.“We have a good laugh filming it and it was very funny.”- Don't miss the latest headlines from around Renfrewshire.

Sign up to our newsletters here.She was part of a strong cast including John Gordon Sinclair, Greg Hemphill, Robert Florence and Juliet Cadzow.Seema’s scene was with River City actress Barbara Rafferty, best known as Ella Cotter in Rab C Nesbitt.Seema played a BBC Scotland reporter on a scoop to interview the first Scots in space.As the capsule door shoots open, Seema asked: “What an incredible journey.

How was it?”To which Barbara gives a deadpan response: “Rotten.”For her day job Seema looks after patients’ teeth at the Kelburne Dental Surgery on Glasgow Road.She grew up in Craw Road where her now retired parents Jagdeep and Rekha still live.Seema landed her latest role as theTV journalist through her agent.She revealed: “The filming for the sketch was done in Pollok Park and I will never forget it because it was so cold.“It was Baltic and I couldn’t stop shivering between takes. “But everyone from the BBC was so lovely and welcoming.” She is hoping to land future roles and get more involved in the industry and build up her experience in front of the camera.

She is one of five dentists at Kelburne and has worked there since 2012.We revealed last year she had landed a speaking part in the Indian plane hijacking movie Bellbottom, which starred Akshay Kumar.Download the FREE
