Coroner will consider 'unlawful killing' after death of girl, 11, in bathroom

A coroner said she will consider a conclusion of unlawful killing after an inquest into the death of an 11 year-old girl. Falaq Barbar died in hospital in March 2022 a month after an incident in the bathroom of the family's home in Rochdale.

Her half-brother Suhail Mohammed, 23, told police he used 'quite a bit of force' on the door to open it and described 'barging' it with his 'shoulder and elbow' before finding Falaq 'on the floor' inside near the radiator.

He said he was pushing the door from the outside, and Falaq was pulling it from the inside, after he heard 'bickering' with a younger brother who wanted to get inside. But an inquest at Rochdale Coroner's Court heard Mr Mohammed sent text messages to his then girlfriend saying he had 'killed' his sister and 'punched her on the head' at around the same time as an ambulance was called.
