John Buckley exploited the cycle-to-work scheme to pay off debts built up from his '£200 a day' cocaine and Xanax habit, a court heard.
The 25-year-old, from Chorlton-on-Medlock, approved six fraudulent applications for himself with vouchers totalling £6,000. He redeemed the vouchers at Halfords and bought numerous bikes, before selling them on Facebook for £500 each.
At Manchester Magistrates' Court on Friday (March 19), Buckley was told he was a 'very lucky man' to avoid prison as he was sentenced to a community order.
