A five-year-old boy who died on New Year's Eve had been reported to police as being at risk of neglect six months before his death.

Authorities had been contacted by a member of the public in the summer about concerns that Dylan Scanlon was not being properly cared for.

It is understood that an officer then sent an email to Oldham’s multi-agency safeguarding hub, a collaboration of social workers and other child protection experts, to flag the issue.

While a worker from the hub did return the email, it is unclear what, if any, steps were taken by either agency in the months before the youngster's tragic death, according to Manchester Evening News.
