While some people search solely for a ‘turn-key’ house when buying a new home, the contestants on RTE’s Home of the Year clearly occupy quite the opposite end of the spectrum.

During the fourth episode of the new series, expert judges Hugh Wallace, Deirdre Whelan and Peter Crowley visit a restored lighthouse keeper’s cottage in East Cork, a remodelled family period home in Co Antrim and a large but dark cottage which has been turned into a light-filled home in Dublin in their hunt for Home of the Year 2020.

But it was the magnificent ways in which the lighthouse keeper’s cottage made use of the sweeping sea views in Youghal bay, which has really caught our attention.
