Channel Tres has shared the second single from his debut studio LP, Real Cultural Shit. “No Limit” drops two-and-a-half months ahead of the album’s scheduled December 8 release via GODMODE, and two months behind the project’s announcement and the arrival of its lead single, “Just Can’t Get Enough.” Both of the songs released on RCS’ cycle thus far have celebrated the roots of house music, but “Just Can’t Get Enough” and “No Limit” spread in distinct directions.
Where the earlier track is a joyous disco jam that samples Teddy Pendergrass’ “The More I Get The More I Want,” the new release finds the Compton, California rapper-singer-producer reaching for the smooth, swampy sounds of west coast funk.
Named for Master P’s legendary New Orleans rap label, the song’s sonic substance is more a nod to an earlier era of that city’s scene, when The Meters, Allen Toussaint, and Dr.
John dominated the airwaves. “It go Compton, Paris, New Orleans / Ain’t no limit for me, ain’t no limit for me,” Tres sings over a distinctly Californian synth.
