BREAKING: Cyclist dies in 'tragic' crash on Manchester main road

The smash happened on Hyde Road just after 1.45am this morning (Wednesday). A black Saab collided with a bike, police said. The cyclist - a 56-year-old man - was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

He has since sadly died. The driver of the car, a 66-year-old man, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He remains in custody for questioning. A police cordon was in place on a stretch of Hyde Road near Reddish Bridge this morning.
