The Papa Johns Trophy is perhaps not the highest priority for clubs in the EFL but Bolton Wanderers have made £20,000 from the competition already without kicking a ball in anger.

That is because all 48 EFL League One and League Two clubs get that amount of money each just for entering the competition, which also includes 16 'invited' under-21 teams.

Wanderers begin their run in the Papa Johns this evening with a 7pm kick-off against Crewe Alexandra. Wanderers are in Group B in the Northern section of the competition.

They will also face Tranmere Rovers and Leeds United's under-21s. READ MORE: Bolton Wanderers transfer state of play ahead of Crewe Alex as Ian Evatt calls for ruthless streak Previous seasons have seen Bolton take on the youth teams of Liverpool and Newcastle United in the group phase.
