A date has been confirmed for the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty died peacefully at Balmoral on Thursday (September 8), aged 96.
Her eldest son, Charles III, was officially proclaimed as King this morning (Saturday). During the Accession Council meeting at St James's Palace, in front of Privy Councillors, the King approved the day of his mother's funeral as a bank holiday.

During his declaration earlier today, King Charles III paid tribute to the Queen. He said: “My lords, ladies and gentlemen, it is my most sorrowful duty to announce to you the death of my beloved mother the Queen.
