By Todd Spangler NY Digital Editor Apple has acquired virtual-reality events streaming company NextVR, which would provide a content engine for the tech giant’s long-expected move into AV and VR hardware.
Apple confirmed the deal to buy NextVR for undisclosed terms, Bloomberg reported. NextVR’s content partners have included NBA, NFL, WWE, Fox Sports, Live Nation, HBO and the International Champions Cup.
Apple has long been working on an AR headset, and CEO Tim Cook has been vocal about the potential of the technology. has plans to launch a headset that combines VR and AR in one device by 2022, and then follow up with a more refined set of AR glasses by 2023.
