Angela Lansbury, one of the most beloved and acclaimed actors of stage, film and television, died at her Los Angeles home today in her sleep, just five days short of her 97th birthday.
Her death was announced by her family. “The children of Dame Angela Lansbury are sad to announce that their mother died peacefully in her sleep at home in Los Angeles at 1:30 AM today, Tuesday, October 11, 2022, just five days shy of her 97th birthday,” the statement reads.
Known to television fans as the star of the long-running Murder, She Wrote, to Broadway fans as the definitive Auntie Mame and to film buffs for enduring performances in The Manchurian Candidate and Gaslight, among a vast number of other roles, Lansbury enjoyed one of the longest and most acclaimed acting careers in Hollywood and New York. “In addition to her three children, Anthony, Deirdre and David, she is survived by three grandchildren, Peter, Katherine and Ian, plus five great grandchildren and her brother, producer Edgar Lansbury.
