Andrew Garfield opens up on flying home to England to be with his mum when she died

Andrew Garfield has recalled the ‘generosity’ of his colleagues on The Eyes of Tammy Faye when he had to leave the set to be with his mother in her final days. In a new interview, the Spider-Man: No Way Home star opened up on losing his mum, Lynn, to cancer while he was in the middle of filming in America.

At the time, Andrew was shooting biopic The Eyes of Tammy Faye, where he plays original Televangelist Jim Bakker; he had accepted the role just before Lynn was diagnosed with the illness.

Speaking to The Independent, Andrew revealed that his mother had encouraged him to go to North Carolina for the opportunity despite her being ill, but during the shoot her condition worsened and she was moved to a hospice.

He recalled having to tell the cast and crew of the film that he had to leave and return to England, saying he found their ‘generosity’ during his grief ‘deeply moving’. ‘When I said my mum has just gone into hospice care, and I have to go, they didn’t hesitate,’ he said. ‘And they shut down production for me.
