America’s Got Talent is back! Season 17 of the hit NBC competition series premiere on Wednesday night (May 31).

During the premiere, host Terry Crews gave out the first Golden Buzzer of the season to a young saxophonist after an incredible performance. Click inside to watch his performance!A young man named Avery Dixon took to the stage during the premiere where he shared his emotional story with the judges, revealing that he suffered “relentless” bullying as a child for his voice and appearance.

He also said that before he started playing the saxophone, he contemplated suicide. “I was in such a dark place, I actually wanted to commit suicide,” Avery shared. “When you’re in that mindset, the only thing you wanna do is quit. … That’s when I started actually learning how to play (the saxophone).” Once he started his audition, Avery‘s incredible skills blew everyone away, especially Terry. “There’s no need to vote!” Terry said with tears in his eyes as he walked over to the judges panel. “You touched the heart of every human being in this building right now,” Terry continued. “And I want to tell you, man, you’ve been bullied all your life, but you tell every bully that you have a big brother named Terry Crews.

Who is here, who’s got your back. And all those bullies are gonna have to watch you succeed, my friend!” Terry then hit the Golden Buzzer, sending Avery straight to Hollywood.
