Actor Jack Docherty on going from 'performing retirement' to Scot Squad role

Actor Jack Docherty has told how he had gone into ­“performing retirement” until he was offered the part of Scot Squad chief Cameron ­Miekelson.

The 59-year-old, from ­ Edinburgh, shot to fame in the late 80s in Channel 4 sketch show Absolutely before ­hosting a chat show on ­Channel 5.

But after taking on a string of writing and producing roles he hadn’t been on screen for nearly a decade when he was offered the part of Miekelson in BBC ­Scotland’s cop mockumentary.

Speaking ahead of the seventh series, which starts on ­Thursday, he said: “I hadn’t really done much for about 10 years and I’d kind of taken a back seat, gone backstage and done a bit of ­writing and producing.“Cameron Miekelson intrigued me enough to come out of performing
