Someone people would turn to in their hour of need. The inscription on his gravestone at a Salford cemetery reads: Loving partner, dad, grandad, brother, uncle and friend to many.

But while Paul Massey was a 'legend' and a protector to his family, to others he was a target. Now the colourful and combative story of his life - snuffed out at the age 55 on the driveway of his home by an assassin wearing army fatigues - has taken a new twist.
