A George Floyd mural has appeared in the Northern Quarter

A street art mural of George Floyd, who died after being forcibly pinned down by police officers in the USA has appeared in the Northern Quarter.

The piece was painted by street artist Akse over the course of this afternoon in Stevenson Square. The portrait of George Floyd has taken up a spot in the Northern Quarter close to Soup Kitchen, Flok, Eastern Bloc and Noho.

On May 25, the unarmed black security guard died in Minneapolis, Minnesota, after being forcibly held down by police officers.

A viral video of the incident showed the 46-year-old saying he was in pain and couldn’t breathe while one white officer, Derek Chauvin, is pictured pinning George Floyd’s neck down with his knee.
