Young people in Manchester given a greater voice to challenge and shape council decisions

A group of young people from across Manchester will be stepping up to provide further scrutiny of the city council’s decisions.The town hall has committed to adopting a shadow executive, which will see teenagers paired with cabinet members to challenge and shape local policies.An eight-strong group has been formed from members of Manchester’s Youth Council, which allows those aged between 11 and 18 to have their voices heard on local issues.They will receive training in problem solving, finance, and decision-making, while also being helped to improve their communication skills - including how to have difficult conversations - to make sure they are confident working alongside their councillor counterparts.Noor Fatima Rafi, from Cheetham.
