Woman dies after house catches fire in Wythenshawe

Firefighters were called to Haveley Road in Benchill shortly after 6pm today (Friday). Greater Manchester Police has confirmed that a woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

A joint investigation between GMP and the fire service is underway. It's understood that the fire started in the lounge of the property.

A GMP spokesperson said: "Police were called by the fire service shortly before 6.20pm to a report of a house fire at an address on Haveley Road, Manchester. "A woman has sadly been pronounced dead at the scene.
