The Met Office is warning people about the dangers of extreme heat over the next few days with temperatures potentially topping 40C in some places.
A 'national emergency' has been declared in England and a red weather warning for extreme heat has been issued for the first time.
The red warning is in place for Monday (July 18) and Tuesday (July 19) and covers an area including Manchester, the Midlands and London.
Met Office spokesman Grahame Madge warned that lives may be at risk describing the situation as "very serious". Met Office chief executive Penny Endersby said that predicted temperatures were "absolutely unprecedented" for the UK, adding that it was not "a chance to go and play in the sun".
