We've been focusing on retailers' budget ranges and deals to help make your money go further. But with prices constantly changing and supermarkets battling it out for our custom, it's not always easy working out where you can make the biggest savings.

That's why we've been taking a look at the price of eight basics in the six main supermarkets this week - buying the cheapest of everything available. While leaner mince is obviously healthier, it's more expensive too, so we opted for the cheapest 20% fat mince available from the fresh shelves.
