A warning has been issued by emergency workers battling a huge moorland blaze after a drone 'massively hampered' firefighters.

A drone flight meant a helicopter dropping water had to to be grounded, according to the Bolton Mountain Rescue team. The helicopter was forced to stay put yesterday (June 1) as the drone continued to fly over the moor - 'massively hampering the firefighting effort'.

Mountain rescuers warned people not to fly the devices anywhere near Darwen Tower, Turton Moor, Earnsdale Reservoir and Belmont Reservoir.

Bolton Mountain Rescue said in a statement on Monday: "Don't fly your drones anywhere near Darwen Tower, Turton Moor, Earnsdale Reservoir or Belmont Reservoir. "A drone has been spotted today, flying over the moor.
