As the UK recovers from the hottest day on record, the temperature is set to again reach a scorching 29C on Sunday. It comes after the UK's blistering hot weather which exceeded 40C and led to health warnings.

And despite showers moving in from the Atlantic, Brits will experience a rise in temperature again. According to Met Office forecaster Clare Nasir, the rest of the week will continue to be "dry and warm" and is expected to peak just shy of 30C on Sunday, July 31. “Over the next few days apart from a few showers, most places will be dry and warm.

However, into the weekend it warms up further across more southern and eastern areas whereas to the north and west fresher with outbreaks of rain.” The latest data revealed the UK has seen just 24 per cent of the rain that is usually expected. The Met Office said that at this stage in the month - up to July 26 - three-quarters of the month's rain should have already fallen. The UK can also expect to see the hottest ever August as the country once again finds itself plunged into an imminent “heat surge” as a result of rising temperatures.

Speaking about the unprecedented temperatures, The Royal Meteorological Society’s Weather journal co-editor-in-chief, Simon Lee, told The i: “This is the world we are in - having seen 40C in reality, we can also expect to see it appear as a possibility more frequently in ensemble forecasts. "Back then, it was perhaps easier to discredit these scenarios as simply too extreme and too unlikely to warrant much further consideration – but then the extreme scenario became a reality on Tuesday 19 July.
