The government has urged those unfortunately left out of work or on furlough to take up a job picking fruit and veg. There is currently a shortage of workers harvesting fields and picking fruit as travel restrictions cause problems for overseas workers who usually take up the seasonal work.
As well as that, upcoming quarantine restrictions aimed at preventing overseas visitors bringing in new cases of coronavirus into the country could lead to further shortages, MPs were warned.
The government has therefore launched a "Pick for Britain" campaign to get British workers to help out in the fields. At the daily Downing Street press conference, Environment Secretary George Eustice called for furloughed workers to take a second job picking
