UK coronavirus death toll rises by 16 in past 24 hours

The death toll now stands at 44,236 - up from 44,220 the previous day and the second lowest daily number of national deaths since lockdown began.Today's figures are down from last Monday's daily increase in deaths of 25.A further 352 people have tested positive for the virus bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 285,768 from 285,416 at the same point yesterday.The number of cases is also down compared to last Monday's 815.More than 10.6 million tests have now been carried out in the UK including 143,457 yesterday.A further 15 people who tested positive for coronavirus have died in hospital in England, bringing the total number of confirmed reported.
