Uwe Rosler has admitted that Manchester City 's infamous relegation from the Premier League in 1996 was the worst day of his playing career, but highlighted one positive moment from the dark day.

City needed to better the results of relegation rivals Coventry City and Southampton to stay up, but faced a difficult task on the last day of the season at home to high-flying Liverpool.

Things started badly for City, going 2-0 down thanks to goals from Steve McManaman and Ian Rush, but Rosler got them back within touching distance, and Kit Symons grabbed a goal with 12 minutes remaining to give them a chance with Southampton remaining locked at 0-0 against Wimbledon.
