Tragic story behind lost football medal now reunited with war hero's family

direct to your inboxWhen Charlie Bell was given an 85-year-old football medal by a friend he decided to do some research.The ex soldier saw there was a military link and wanted to reunite it with the family of the original owner.His pal had bought it 20 years ago at a market in Manchester for £2.Charlie found out that the person it was awarded to, John 'Jack' Carley, was from Rossendale.The memento was embossed with 'Command Senior Association Football League' with '1935-36 Runners up 10th Field Brigade RA Sgt J Carley'.

On the other side of the fob was 'Aldershot Command Athletic Association'.But the story of the man who won it is one of immense poignancy.Charlie, from Firswood, Trafford, said:"Tiny items often have such compelling stories.
