Tragic diagnosis as girl told of rare terminal disease after routine eye test

A 'sweet and bubbly' girl has been dealt a tragic blow after being diagnosed with a rare terminal illness following a routine eye check-up.

Emily Atkin, 10, was told she has Juvenile Batten Disease, which is a rare genetic condition that causes victims to lose their sight, speech and mobility.

Having been given the shattering news on January 20 this year, the family of Emily have been told to make lasting memories with her as their is no cure for her condition.

The life expectancy of children with Juvenile Batten Disease is not beyond their teenage years, news which came as a terrible shock to Emily's mum and dad Rebecca and Ricky Atkin.
