Three sites on Dover’s iconic White Cliffs being considered for Dame Vera Lynn memorial

Forces’ Sweetheart Dame Vera Lynn. Her daughter Virginia Lewis-Jones met with local council representatives today as she visited the Kent cliffs to look at the locations.

She said no decision had been taken on where to place it, but the three sites are the Western Heights Bowl, St Martins Battery and the Citadel.

Mrs Lewis-Jones was joined by family friend Southend MP Sir David Amess and Dover MP Natalie Elphicke. Ms Elphicke said the visits were to look at sites for the memorial as well as discussions about “the potential for an outdoor performing arts bowl to complement the planned indoor creative arts venue at Bench Street in Dover as part of a multi-million pound reshaping of the seafront end of the town”.
