The government announced new restrictions in response to the emergence of the Omicron variant of Covid-19. It includes new guidance to work from home wherever possible, a mandatory NHS Covid Pass and mandatory face coverings in certain settings.
From Friday, December 10, face coverings will be legally required on public transport, any indoor venue that is not exempt such as places of worship, cinemas, hotels and more. Read more: When do 'Plan B' restrictions come into force in England?
But there are some settings where you are exempt from wearing a face covering. The government website on Covid-19 guidance states that it is not recommended to wear a face mask while exercising or doing strenuous physical activity.
