A mum had to run to a phone box to call for help after her ex-partner strangled her in front of their two kids. It was one of two occasions Sam Botham, 36, turned up at the terrified mother's home and assaulted her.

The former builder has now been jailed for a raft of crimes, including two shoplifting offences he committed to fund his drug habit.

Botham had been in a relationship with the woman for 14 years, but they parted in January last year due to 'infidelity on the defendant's part' and his use of crack cocaine, Kate Gaskell prosecuting told Manchester Crown Court.
